Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) has released the admission notification of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) Selection Test, 2026 - 2027 for admission into Class VI. To get admission at JNV, students are required to appear for the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test i.e JNVST examination.

        In accordance with the National Policy of Education (1986), Government of India started Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs). Presently the JNVs are spread in 27 States and 08 Union Territories. These are co-educational residential schools fully financed and administered by Government of India through an autonomous organization, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti.

Eligibility Criteria for JNV Assam Admission


Educational Qualification: A candidate appearing for the selection test must be studying in Class-V for the whole of the academic session 2024-25 in a Government/Government aided or other recognized schools or ‘B’ certificate competency course of National Institute of Open Schooling in the same district where he/she is seeking admission.

Age Limit: A candidate seeking admission must not have been born before 1st May 2014 and after 31st July 2016 (Both dates are inclusive). This will apply to candidates of all categories, including those who belong to the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Class (OBC).

Geo location: A candidate who is studying class V in a district is allowed to apply for admission to JNV in the same district only. Only the bonafide resident candidates from the district concerned where the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya has been located and studying class V in the same district are eligible to apply for admission to JNVs through JNVST.

No of Attempt/s: No candidate is eligible to appear in the selection test for the second time, under any circumstances.

Rural Quota: At least 75% of the seats in a district will be filled by candidates selected from rural areas of the district. The remaining seats are open which will be filled on merit from both Urban and Rural Area candidates of the district as per reservation criteria. 
 
A candidate seeking admission under the rural quota must have studied in Classes-III, IV and V completing full academic session from the Government/ Government Aided/Government recognized schools located in rural areas. However, the candidate should study full academic session under rural area in Class-V from the same district where admission is sought.


Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) 2025 Details


The selection test will be of two-hour duration from 11:30 am to 01:30 pm and will have 3 sections with only objective type questions. There are 80 questions in all for 100 marks.

JNV Selection Test for admission to Class-VI in JNVs for the academic session 2024-25 will be held in On Sunday, 13th December, 2025 at 11.30 A.M. in one phase for all Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas.

The last date to submit online application is 13th August 2025.


Admit Cards of Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test


The admit cards will be made available as per date decided by NVS in due course which will be displayed on application portal. The admit cards shall be downloaded free of cost by the candidates/ parents before the conduct of JNVST 2026.


Assam JNV Admission 2025 Result


The result of JNV Selection Test 2026 is expected to be announced by March, 2026 for Summer bound JNVs & in May, 2026 for Winter bound JNVs. Candidates can get the result from the admission portal. The result will also be displayed in the offices of the concerned:

i) Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya
ii) District Education Officer
iii) District Magistrate
iv) Deputy Commissioner, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti of the Region.
v) The website of the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti www.navodaya.gov.in.

The Principal, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya concerned, will also inform the provisionally selected candidates through SMS on the registered mobile number followed by a speed post. The entire admission process for the session 2026-27 will be closed latest by 31st December, 2026.


Online Application for JNV Admission 2025 Assam


The process for submission of application for JNV Selection Test has been simplified through online process. Registration can be done free of cost through the admission portal of NVS linked through www.navodaya.gov.in. Interested candidates have to follow below mentioned steps to apply online for Assam Navodaya Admission

 → Scroll down, check Important Link section.
 → Click on Online Application Portal.
 → Fill the Mandatory Information.
 → An online application form will be opened, fill all details accordingly.
 → In upload document section, upload your respective documents.
 → Click on Save & Preview.
 → Now, you will get a preview of your application and next, click on the submit your application button.
 → On successful submission of application, you will get a Registration No. and acknowledgment receipt of your submitted application. Keep the same for your future references.


Required Documents During JNVST Online Application


Keep the following scanned copies ready before start filling the application in JPG Format Only.

1. Candidate's signature. (Size of signature should be between 10-100 kb.)
2. Parent's signature. (Size of signature should be between 10-100 kb.)
3. Candidate's photograph. (Size of image should be between 10-100 kb.)
4. Certificate signed by parent & candidate and verified by Headmaster. (Size of image should be between 50-300 kb.)
5. Residence Certificate of the parent Issued by competent Government Authority if candidate does not possess Aadhaar Number.
