Selection Procedure of Stenographer Grade-III Post:


The selection process for the post of Stenographer Grade-III is divided into 03 (three) phases which are shown below:

Stage-I: (Stenography Test)- In this test candidates have to attend Speed Test in shorthand.

Stage-II: (Written Test)- Candidates equal to 10 times the number of vacancies (1:10) who have qualified in the Stenography Test securing minimum 30 marks, shall be called for Written Test.

Stage-III: (Viva-voce)- Candidates qualifying in the written test shall be called in the ratio (1:3) in order of merit in the Stenography Test for viva-voce. There will be 10 Marks for Viva-voce.

The final position will be determined on the basis of the total marks obtained in the Stenography Test and Viva-voce.


NOTE: In case of candidates obtaining equal marks (in the stenography test and viva-voce), one who obtains more marks in the Stenography will be given preference. Where the marks obtained by such candidates in the Stenography test are also same, the candidate who is senior in age will be given preference.

The Gauhati High Court reserves the right to fix/ alter the cut off marks in the Written Test and Stenography Test.



Syllabus & Marks Distribution of Written Test and Stenography Test:


a) Written Test: The written test will be objective type (OMR based) multiple choice question of total 70 Marks. The duration of the exam is 1½ hour.

The Paper of the written test will be consists of English Language Proficiency (50 marks) and the Official Language of the State of Assam (Assamese) (20 marks).


b) Stenography Test:
  1. Voice test before dictation - 2 Minutes
  2. Speed Test in shorthand at a speed of 80 words per minute. Total 560 words and total time will be given 7 minutes. There will be 100 marks for this test.
  3. Three (3) Minutes time to be given to the candidates for testing the computer.
  4. Time for transcription of the dictated portion in the computer will be 25 Minutes.
